Majority of the chocolate Easter treats available to buy from the shops contain ingredients that are less than desirable to be putting into our bodies. Most are loaded with lots of highly processed sugars, soy products and what is the quality and source of the ingredients? I had a quick look in the local shops at the selection of Easter treats and in this day and age when a large number of people are looking for better quality and less rubbish, I was disappointed, but hardly surprised to see that there were no other options available.
So because of this I have taken to making my own healthy chocolate treats, that I don’t over indulge in, but they hit the spot for the little sweet treat that I crave and give me the chocolate fix that I am looking for. Don’t settle for highly processed chocolate treats this Easter. Make your own, there are so many recipes out there and that way you are in total control of the type of ingredients you use and where you source your ingredients from. Bliss balls are so easy, any number of ingredients can be used and really can’t go wrong! I love a good bliss ball! Here is a recipe I have concocted that works a treat.
Chocoholic Bliss Balls
Ingredients
80g of Changing Habits dates
20g of chia seeds
8 Changing Habits cacao wafers (I love eating these with a spoonful of home made nut butter)
100g of organic shredded coconut
50g of organic cashews
50g of macadamias (organic if possible)
20g of organic sunflower seeds
35g of organic cacao powder
1 teaspoon of Loving Earth Maca Powder
75g of home made nut butter
2 tablespoons of Loving Earth coconut oil
A couple of tablespoons of organic desiccated coconut for rolling the bliss balls in
Method
Put all ingredients into the Thermomix bowl or a high powered blender, blend on speed 9 for 30 seconds or until the ingredients start to bind together during the processing.
Take out small teaspoon size quantities and roll into a ball.
Drop the bliss ball into the desiccated coconut and roll around covering.
Place the bliss ball into a container to refrigerate for a couple of hours before enjoying. Keep them stored in the fridge.
These are little explosions of sweet chocolatey flavours with a bit of crunch from the chia seeds. I love to eat mine for morning tea with a beautiful cup of my chai tea with coconut milk.
Happy Easter everyone! I really hope you have all enjoyed your Easter weekend, relaxing, spending time with family and friends or just taking some well earned time out from busy schedules and doing what makes your heart sing.
Family, yoga, the beach and animals!
With lots of love and laughter
